The short version: your recordings never reach us, because there is nowhere for them to go. The recorder on this site has no upload function. Everything below explains that in more detail and covers the few third parties involved in serving the pages.
Audio captured with our browser recorder is processed entirely on your device, using the MediaRecorder API and the Web Audio API built into your browser. Trimming, silence removal and MP3 encoding all run inside the page. When you press Download, your browser writes the file to your own storage.
We do not receive, transmit, store, analyse or back up any audio. There is no server-side component that could. This is a property of how the tool is built, not a promise about how we behave.
Your browser asks for microphone access, and it is your browser that grants or refuses it. We cannot access your microphone before you accept, and you can withdraw the permission at any time in your browser's site settings. If you refuse, the recorder simply will not start.
The only personal data we handle is what you type into the contact form: your email address and your message. It is delivered to us by email so that we can reply. We do not add it to a mailing list, sell it, or pass it to anyone else. Ask us to delete a message and we will.
The contact form records your IP address briefly for rate-limiting, so that automated systems cannot flood the form. Those short-lived records contain no other information about you.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful: page views, referring site, browser and device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics also records a few anonymous events about how the recorder is used, such as when a recording is started, stopped or downloaded, and which file format was chosen. These events count actions, never content: no audio, no filenames and no recording data are collected, because none of that leaves your browser in the first place.
Google processes this data on our behalf. You can read Google's privacy policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely in any browser with Google's opt-out add-on. If we add or change an analytics provider, this page will be updated to name it.
Google Analytics sets its own cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_<id>) to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. They hold a randomly generated identifier, not your name or email address.
We set no advertising cookies. Should we introduce advertising in future, the provider may set cookies, and this policy will be updated to say so before that happens. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the recorder will keep working exactly as before.
The MP3 encoder used by the recorder is served from this site rather than an external CDN, so no third party is involved in encoding your audio.
Because nothing is stored on our side, there is no data breach that could expose your audio. The flip side is that we cannot recover anything either. A recording exists only in your browser's memory until you download it, and closing the tab, refreshing the page, running out of memory or crashing the browser will end it.
Download your recording as soon as you stop it, and make a short test recording first if the session matters. For anything irreplaceable, use desktop software that writes continuously to disk. Our software guide covers the options.
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it erased. In practice the only thing we could hold is a contact-form email. Write to us through the contact page and we will act on the request.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
